Introduction to Writing Poetry
Lesson 2
Write Your Own Cinquain & Ghazal
According to our lesson this week, these two poetry forms are described as follows:
- The traditional cinquain is 22 syllables set in lines of 2-4-6-8-2.
- The tanka is a lyrical poem written as follows:
- Write one line of any meter.
- Write a second line using the same type of meter as your first, with a hard-end stop.
- Write another closed couplet (like the first two steps) using the same type of meter.
- Repeat until you feel your poem is finished.

Creativity needs more than reviews
Thank the gods I have a muse.Creating plots to be more than a ruse
Thank the gods I have a muse.A day at the beach or a holiday cruise
Thank the gods I have a muse.Ideas can be warped from the evening news
Thank the gods I have a muse. The privilege they give I'll never abuse
Thank the gods I have my muses.
